Report: Marijuana arrests on the rise in PA

A new report says Pennsylvania State Police doubled the number of marijuana arrests between 2010 and 2016


Costing taxpayers more than $225-million.


In a new report called “Cannabis Crackdown,” the PA ACLU also says black people statewide are eight times more likely than white people to be arrested for marijuana possession, despite similar usage rates among people of different races.


The group is calling for legalization of marijuana in the state.


The study also shows that black people statewide are more than eight times more likely than white people to be arrested for marijuana possession, despite similar usage rates among people of different races.


Among its findings, the report found that the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) is one of the leading drivers of the increase in arrests. PSP’s total arrests per year for possession more than doubled in seven years, from 2,221 arrests in 2010 to 4,612 in 2016.
